although Salsa originated in Cuba, it is the result of many cultural influences and instrumental combinations. during it's formative years Salsa was known as "Son". later, exiled Cubans founded modern Salsa in New York. they combined various elements from Son, Mambo, Cha-Cha and flavoured it with Puerto Rican influence to produce the exciting dance we experience today.
